BRAD,
bundled against the weather, is at one corner
of the stage, gazing out over the audience.
HOLLY, also bundled and holding two plastic
bags of empty soft drink bottles and cans, stands
at the other corner of the stage, facing Brad.
They are both old enough to know better. They
are oblivious to other characters who appear.
NOTE:
The five other characters who appear can be played, with some quick
costume changes, by one man and one woman.
HOLLY
Well?
BRAD
Still
the same, Holly.
HOLLY
Did
you see him once, at least?
BRAD
I
don’t know that it’s a him.
HOLLY
Did
you see anything?
BRAD
Maybe.
HOLLY
That’s
a no.
Behind
them, a MAN ENTERS and walks slowly across the stage, reading a map.
He looks around to get his bearings, then goes back to the map.
BRAD
That’s
maybe. A little while back I thought...there was a ripple.
HOLLY
You
saw a ripple in the water. That’s so very rare.
BRAD
Go
ahead and mock.
HOLLY
Don’t
need your permission.
